At Night

This is a reinterpretation of the children's book At Night, I really enjoyed this piece it was quite fun to work on.

I'M A REAL LAYOUT

So its about time but I finally decided to make a real spiffy and (more) professional look to the blog.  I'm really fond of it.  I've uploaded a banner (finally).  And I'm most fond of the background.  Which consist of an Awesome Cloud, and a cat with kids heads for hands.  Which can be individually below.

first run of thesis images

As the title suggest, these are the first run of images for my senior thesis.  I'm basically adapting classic novels into beers.  Here is the first set of three.  These are going to go through significant changes from what they are now.  So be prepared to see these again. I know I don't normally use digital texture in my work but I needed to capture the aged paper feel I was going for, I'm probably going to print the final on yellowed paper, or yellow it myself, instead of relying on the texture.

Story Board

This is the first part of a story board that I did for children's book illustration.  Of the four panels we did only one was to be taken to finish.  I absolutely love this guy, its probably my favorite thing I've done all year.  I'd actually like to take the other three panels to finish soon too.

Bistro Romano

The Bistro Romano has murder mystery dinner theater every Friday and Saturday.  Its a bit steep but I think would be fun to attend.  I decided to do a seasonal Halloween poster for them.

Event Poster!

I had to create an event poster this past week, I choose to connect it with cartooning and comics, and since SPX just happened; I decided to make the poster for SPX.  I've been told how cute this piece is.  I definitely think that my work is moving into that direction, in a good way.

Owl and the Grasshopper

For my children's book class, our first project was to illustrate the fable "The Owl and the Grasshopper."  The trick was we couldn't personify the animals too much and the scale had to remain the same.  We could also only do this in one image.  Mine illustrates the beginning of the fable when the Grasshopper won't let the Owl sleep because of his singing.

Global Warming Poster

One of my first pieces senior year, I'm extremely proud of this one.  We had to create a green project in whatever format or field we wanted.  I choose to do a global warming poster.  This year is off to a great start I hope to keep it up.

Hiatus

Hi everyone sorry I haven't updated these past two Wednesdays.  I had to put Further East on hiatus for a couple weeks, I got an actual paying poster job that I'm putting all my effort into for the next couple of weeks.  I also have been doing some fashion stuff, and I'm making a comic for July's COPOUT Artists publication, as well as working a day job.  So my free time to work on Further East is virtually non-existent.  I'm terribly sorry about this, I'll update when I can!

No update today sorry :[

I left my laptop charger in Philly, however, I did not realize this until after my laptop died.  So I'm unable to update Further East this week.  I'll be returning to Philly this weekend though and will be able update then.  Sorry about this unfortunate accident.

Further East Chapter 1 page 3

Here's the resolution of the the first chapter.  I know, I know its really short, but I'm currently working on chapter 2 and its much longer, it'll also answer all the questions that weren't resolved in this chapter, like who the characters are and what their overall plan is!

Further East Chapter 1 page 2

Here is the climax of the first chapter.  Two of our protagonists fight off the monster that attacked their camp sight.  I must say that I really like the third panel I think its my favorite so far.  Stay tuned next week for the resolution chapter one.

Sorry that for a little while there was a really poor quality page up.  I had run into some technical difficulties but figured it all out now.

Further East Chapter 1 page 1

Okay here is the long term project that I've been working on for the past couple of weeks.  Its an action adventure comic featuring four main characters.  I plan to update this every Wednesday over the course of the summer.  The first chapter is really short and is going to go on for the next couple weeks.  I intentionally don't mention the characters names in this chapter and what their overall goal is.  They're lost and the reader is supposed to feel lost with them.  I will reveal their names in the future and why the comic is called Further East.  I hope you guys enjoy the first page of chapter 1!

Elephant Outta Luck (new comics

Sorry that I haven't updated in a while.  I've been busy trying to secure a place to live, and finding a job.  I found an apartment, not job yet though.  I've also been working two relatively time consuming projects.  One of which I'm posting today!  Elephant Outta luck!  I hope you enjoy.  The other is a secret, but should appear on the site in a week or two, I have long term plans for the upcoming project.

Another six hour assignment

Got another six hour assignment today, had to illustrate a craigslist missed connection from Wednesday.  If you want to see the post you can see it here.

Those of you weary of craigslist, here's the text.

"Great hair cut - m4w - 27 (KOP)

You gave me a great hair cut. You have beautiful eyes and hair, wanted to say that but could not. Probably you might not even read this. But worth a try. "

I've been meaning to put these artist products online but it kept slipping my mind for some reason.

The following are a series of coasters done as a how-to-manual on How To Pick up girls.

The next are for paper plates and cups done using my blue culinary pattern that I put up a few weeks ago.

NEW COMIC UP FINALLY!

I've been meaning to put up a new comic for quite awhile, since most of the stuff I've been working on lately isn't appearing online and only in print form.  So to those of you who read this and have been patient with me.  Here is you new comic.

This was also apart of a six hour challenge, we got to choose what to illustrate from a variety of options.  I choose a four to six panel comic of course.  Good thing I was able to get it done in time.

This is a true story by the way.  The summers we spent house sitting for my grandfather were so boring.  So my sister and I thought that it would be a cool idea to climb the book case in the spare bed room.  Well obviously I fell and cut my face on that red metallic wagon he kept next to the couch.  Seriously who thought that metal wagons with sharp edges were safe to let kids play with?  It was pretty bad I had to get stitches and all.  I still have the scar, but thankfully my beard covers it up!

Just yesterday I found that my flower pattern was being used by a website as a "+250 free floral patterns"  with out my permission, which would link back to my deviant art page.  Luckily I had disabled the download feature, so its not like I lost any money out of it.  I just don't like my work being labeled as "free resource and stock images"  Because I wouldn't just give away a pattern like that, otherwise I wouldn't be able to make a living.  I'm going to email the site in the next couple of days to make sure that it gets taken down.  I may have to start water-marking all of my full size work, because screen resolution and disabled download features are doing the trick.  I really didn't want to, but the next time something gets stolen it could just be worse than my flower pattern.

COPOUT Artists are having another release this Friday you should come and pick up an issue from us we're going to try Brave New Worlds again, if that fails then we'll find another place to pass them out.  We'll try to keep you updated.  Anyways this issue like I said before is in a different format than the first.  You'll just have to see it.  This issue features my new comic Klutz and a comic by Andy Hood.  It's going to be good.

Fishbowl

Fishbowl is my new three page mini-comic.  This won't appear online at all.  You can find it in print sometime after next week.  Once I find someone to carry it, I'll let you know where you can find a copy.  I plan on printing roughly 200 hundred of these so get your hands on one while you still can.

If you're a very rare fish person rather than a dog or cat person, I suggest you pick one up.

Here's the teaser cover.

Wind-up Bird Chronicle Illustrations

I did some Wind-up Bird Chronicle book illustrations.  I did about three in full color, which I don't think I'm going to put online.  However here is one of the inks for the series.

Also got Eisley's new album and I'm in love with it.   I highly recommend picking up a copy.

No Art today

Its really hard to work during spring break, so I'm just trying to get into the habit of posting at least once a week even if I have no new art or comics to put up.  So instead I'm just going to talk here for a little bit about up coming projects.

Currently I'm working on COPOUT Artists' #2 with Andy Hood, this is going to be in a completely different format than COPOUT Artists #1 Moments.  After publishing our first work I learned a great deal about printing and assembling comics, which is why we're making the switch.  We're going to attempt so hard to have new comics every first Friday to pass out in Philly.  So with that only two artists will be working together a month on a comic, I think that it'll just be more manageable that way.  It'll be in a flip comic format which is a lot more difficult to explain than3 it should be, you'll just have to see it.  It's also going to be in a smaller format so we can print on 8.5 x 11 so we don't end up wasting any paper, really last time we may have killed an entire forest.  Since its a flip comic, it operates as two separate comics that just happen to share a book, because of this there will be no over lapping theme amongst the works and the artists will have complete control over all the content that will be put in the book well, except the format and it has to be four pages long.  So all together we'll have an 8 page mini.  I hope you're all looking forward to more autobiographical misadventures by yours truly.

I'm also working on an upcoming three page comic (plus cover so four pages altogether) in the upcoming weeks.  Its just about a boy and his pet fish.  This one its an assignment so I'm not sure if I'm going to print these for distribution yet or not.  It something I would certainly like to do.  If I do I'm going to print it entirely by myself and be completely independent from COPOUT Artists.  Because its outside of the planned COPOUT format, being only three pages.  So keep an eye out for it, I'll put a page up here if I decide to print it.  If not I'll just post them all up.  Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free right?

I'm also planning on another comic this too being autobiographical but only a short two pager, so in all likely hood this will appear online in its entirety.

I'm also really excited for Eisley's new album, I've already ordered it but I haven't gotten in the mail yet so I've been on an Eisley binge and listening to all their music.

COPOUT Artists #1 Moments is out!

Tonight we passed out COPOUT Artists #1 Moments.  Things went really well!  Some people even came up to me and asked about publishing comics, they even asked me what my influences were.  Which was a very interesting experience since this was the first time that's ever happened, and I'm used to always being the one asking the cartoonist.  That makes me feel professional, and its definitely is really awesome.

We're probably going to work on creating a paypal account for purchasing zines for anybody outside of philadelphia who would like them.  I'll keep you guys updated on that in the future.

Here I was just messing around in photoshop with some line drawings that I colored digitally.  I was just doing some pattern work and came up with this.

Kathleen Hanna Portraits

I had to create a portrait of a famous person as a diptych.  I've been listening to a lot of Bikini Kill and Le Tigre lately.  So I choose Kathleen Hanna, I depicted her as a well spoken intelligent feminist in person, and well as the angry screaming feminist that she is on stage but in a good way.

Narrative Comics

I had such a hard time doing color on this one, it took me literally forever.  I'm unsure about the white waves in the large panel.  I'll see what gets said about it and change it later.

Any ways this is about a man named Tony who used to use his father's bottles as a telescope, as a child.  He grew up into an alcoholic like his father.

Un-happy Valentine's Day

Okay so I feel as if my blog has been just "here is my work hire me." And there isn't enough of me in it.  So decided to make a personal comic, that did on my own and not as a project, just to let you know a little bit about who I am.

New Comic

This was done as an Op Ed illustration, and wanting to see something you unique I decided to do it in comic format.  The article was about the deception that Texas used masking their deficit.
